
Jimtown 1910
PLATEAU CITY, COLORADO was first called Jimtown after Jim (S.J.) Kiggins who
gave the property to get the town started. About 1910 it had a
Methodist Episcopal Church brick church, two lumber yards, a well
stocked general store with a dancehall upstairs (Keystone Store
today), Russell’s horse trading corral, Pete LeFevre’s hotel and
livery barn, a creamery, a millinery shop, a saloon, a hardware store,
Hoel Business Academy, a blacksmith shop, Dr. Watson (1905), and a
bandstand with musicians that gave a performance Saturday nights and
marched proudly around the city water pump and watering trough which
was located squarely in the middle of the street. About 1901 a band
stand was built on the east side of Plateau City just east of 57.5
Road. W.E. Phillips was band master. There were 15 members in the band
consisting of nine clarinets, two drums, and four tubas. Dues were $5.
